Congratulations to Sheila Nicol for being chosen as the January Volunteer of the Month.
Sheila moved to Fernley about 5 years ago. Previously she lived in Oceanside Ca. Sheila has been a volunteer here at the center for about 4(four) years. She mainly helps out with our Holiday parties, decorating, entertainment committee. Also she volunteers with the Monday night bingo and helps out wherever else she is needed. She also volunteers as secretary for the 4th of July committee and is the advertising chair person
Sheila states she became a volunteer because she needed to meet people. She originally came in for the crafts and bingo, then volunteered for the entertainment committee and “the rest is history.”
Her favorite thing about volunteering is all of the varied and interesting people you meet. Some old Fernleyites and “newbies” like herself.
Prior to moving to Fernley Sheila was an International Credit Manager.
She has her husband Ray. Two son’s one which lives here in Fernley and the other is in Oceanside. They also have 4 Grandchildren.
Sheila would encourage others to become volunteers because human contact is important at any stage of life.
The give and take. I give my time and get so much more in new friendships. A person can only spend so much time reading and being alone. Volunteering keeps your mind active and the laughter flowing.
Thank you Sheila for all you do here at the Senior Center. Your humor and smile make it a fun place for everyone to enjoy!!!
