A special thank you, and congratulations to Nola Cox. Nola has been chosen as our October 2009 Volunteer of the month!
Nola has lived in Fernley since 1990. They moved here from Chicago when her husband Gordon retired.
Nola began volunteering here at the senior center 18 years ago when she stopped working full time. Nola and her husband started by doing the yard work, and putting out the decorations in the center. Nola also has served as the treasurer for the Advisory Council. Nola has also volunteered with the Reno Gem and Mineral Society, and the Nevada Good Sams. Right now Nola volunteers about six hours a week at the Senior Center working on the Bingo Committee and other activities as needed.
Nola began volunteering here because back then there were not a lot of volunteers and the yard work needed to get done. So Nola and Gordon got to work and made the yards look great!
She enjoys volunteering because she feels she is helping others.
Nola has two sons and two beautiful granddaughters.
Prior to moving to Fernley Nola worked in accounting and bookkeeping for a CPA.
Nola say’s, “if you have spare time and need something to do, I suggest you volunteer. It gives you a feeling you are helping others.”
Nola you are a very special person, your generosity each time you are here makes the Senior Center a very special place to
